Southwest University “New Silk Road” Scholarship for International Students

Scholarship Objectives

To finance students or short-term groups from the countries along the Belt and Road with established joint study projects or agreements with SWU.

Scholarship Categoriess

Ø  Scholarship for Bachelor's degree students (including visiting students)

Ø  Scholarship for Master's degree students

Ø  Scholarship for Doctoral degree students

Ø  Scholarship for short-term program ( 2 weeks)

Scholarship Types

Ø  Type A Scholarship

Ø  Type B Scholarship

Scholarship Coverage

Ø  Type A Scholarship covers tuition fee (including experiment and internship expense) and monthly living allowance (CNY1100 for Bachelor's degree students and visiting students, CNY1400 for Master's degree students and CNY1700 for Doctoral degree students).

Ø  Type B Scholarship covers tuition fee (including experiment and internship expense).

Ø  Short-term program scholarship covers tuition fee, accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance, cultural activities and living allowance.

Scholarship Duration & Annual Assessment

Generally, scholarship holders are eligible for the following scholarships according to their study duration: 4 years for Bachelor's degree students, 2-3 years for Master's degree students, 3 years for Doctoral degree students.

According to relevant regulations, every May there is a comprehensive assessment of the scholarship holder's performance during the previous academic year to determine whether the scholarship holder is qualified to continue receiving the scholarship.

Students of short-term program are required to complete their learning tasks in order to obtain study certificates.

Scholarship Eligibility

Ø  Non-Chinese citizen in good health.

Ø  Education background and within the following age limits.

—Applicants for Bachelor's degree studies must have graduated from senior high school and be under the age of 30.

—Applicants for Master's degree studies must have Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

— Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

Ø  Language Requirement for Degree Programs

—HSK 4 certificate with the score of or above 180 for Chinese-taught Programs.

—IELTS: Not less than 6.0, or TOEFL (Internet-based): Not less than 80 for English-taught Programs.

Ø  Not sponsored by any other scholarships.

Ø  Application for short-term groups is mainly open to students, native Chinese teachers and staff members of the universities or educational institutions from the countries along the Belt and Road who established joint study projects or agreements with SWU.

Application Procedures

A.   Mail-in Application

Ø  Download Application Form for Southwest University New Silk Road Scholarship and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners at http://www.scfqjr-tour.com, or collect them from the International Students Admission Office of Southwest University.

Ø  Complete the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and undergo a physical examination at a local public hospital. The record is valid for 6 months.

Ø  Prepare the other application documents requested and send the full package of application documents to the International Students Admission Office of Southwest University.

B.    Online Application

Ø  Log onto the website of SWU online application at http://issic.swu.edu.cn and register.

Ø  Download the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners, complete it and take physical examination at a local public hospital.

Ø  Log onto the website and enter the information and upload the documents as requested.

Ø  Confirm all information and submit.

Recruitment Procedures

Ø  Southwest University will evaluate the application materials and post the enrollment list at http://www.scfqjr-tour.com and notify the applicants by email.

Ø  Admitted applicants must deposit application fee of CNY 500 to Southwest University’s bank account.

Ø  Admission Notice and Visa Application for Study in China (JW202 form) will be mailed to the admitted applicants by the end of June or December every year.

Application Documents

Ø  Application Form for Southwest University New Silk Road Scholarship (in duplicate).

Ø  Photocopies of the highest diploma, graduation certificate or diploma certificate attained. University students or employed applicants should provide proof of studying or employment. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English in duplicate.

Ø  Transcripts of the previous academic record. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English (in duplicate).

Ø  An 800 word study plan (Bachelor degree applicant) or research plan (Master’s and Doctoral degree applicant).

Ø  Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. Recommendation letters should have the signatures of professors or associate professors (in duplicate, only for Master’s and Doctoral degree applicant).

Ø  Language proficiency certificates: Photocopy of HSK certificate or other certificates of Chinese proficiency or IELTS/net-based TOFEL certificate or other certificates of English proficiency (if any).

Ø  Published academic papers or other academic achievements (original or photocopy, if any).

Ø  Two photocopies of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (The applicant should keep the original for future visa applications).

Ø  Two recent photos (white background, passport size). Please write the applicant’s name and major on the back of the photo.

Ø  Photocopy of the applicant’s passport.

Notes:

1.     For music or fine arts applicants, please submit two works by CD.

2.     For English-taught programs applicants, please finish all the materials in English (Application form, recommendation letter, study plan etc.).

June 1, 2018 (date is subject to the local mail stamp chop in terms of airmail)

Accommodation Information

Ø  Double-bed room at international students’ dormitory on campus (shared by two): CNY 5000/semester/person, CNY 9000/year/person

Ø  Single-bed room at international students’ dormitory on campus: CNY 7000/semester, CNY 12000/year/person

Ø  Double-bed room at Nanyuan dormitory on campus (shared by two): CNY 5000/semester/person, CNY 9000/year/person

Ø  Four-bed room at Chinese students’ dormitory on campus: CNY 1500/ semester/person, CNY 3000/year/personquantity is limited, on first-order-first-served basis

Note: International College can assist students in renting rooms on or off campus.
